"you can't win at everything, but you can laugh at everything" - Robert Killinger
hello!
I'm Jo Eadie
And I'm learning to laugh more. I never realised how
little I
laughed until I went to a Laughter Yoga event. At the end of 60 minutes
of laughing non-stop, I realised that this was probably more than I had
laughed all year. Did you know that as children we laugh 300 times a
day - but that most adults laugh only fiteen times a day? So I set out
to find out how to reclaim my missing 285 laughs.
This has been a wild ride for me, that began with a training course
with the UK Laughter Network, and has culminated in a new career
bringing laughter to the world. I've come to realise that laughter and
happiness are skills: you can develop them, expand them, pick up new
tips, make them grow. And where I used to think that the way to becomes
happier was to put all my energy into trying to clear away my unhapppiness (journals,
therapists, deep introspection) now I think that for many of us the
trick to getting happier lies in learning to practice happiness more often, more
regularly, more consciously.
Which is why I teach routes into happiness. At the moment
this includes:
* Running the Nottingham Laughter Club
and now the new Milton Keynes Laughter Club, where anyone can drop in
to
learn how to laugh more. more>
* Teaching regular courses on
happiness skills.
* Arranging laughter workshops
for a range of organisations
with
an interest in lifting the mood, including Barnardo's, the Healthy
Schools programme, and local health support groups such as Nottingham
Dyslexia and The Derby M.E. Group.
* I also have a special interest in
developing gentle laughter
sessions for people with M.E., and have an ongoing programme of
laughter events with M.E. groups around the country. more>

"When Jo Eadie offered to run a laughter therapy workshop at the
Thistle Foundation free of charge, well it was too good a chance to
miss, I thought. So on the day, I made my way to the Thistle Foundation
and as I got nearer I thought ‘What on earth will this be like?’ Would
a man
appear and tell us quick fire jokes? But, no, Jo turned
out to be a softly spoken, gentleman who made us laugh by helping us to
laugh, in the kindest possible way, at one another. He encouraged the
funny side of each one of us to slowly emerge and before we knew where
we were, laughter filled the room! He encouraged us to have little
quiet times, because he knows that laughing can be tiring.
I must say I used chuckle muscles that obviously haven’t used in a long
time because I began to ache a little in places I didn’t know I had! I
realise this account of things really doesn’t explain how all this
happened. He managed to bring out the humorous side of each of us. It
was really good fun and if Jo comes back to do another laughter
workshop, I’ll befirst in line to get to laugh myself silly! Meanwhile,
I'm off to put on my Tom and Jerry DVD!"
